Here are the pics of my last cake for this class. I'm pretty happy with my progress. My vines and leaves are better this week and I'm not bad at roses (if I don't mind saying so myself!). We also learned sweet peas (the blue flowers on the cake) which are really cute.
I'm still kind of floundering around thinking of ways that this can be applied to cafe cakes (making every piece have equal icing, thinking of non-cheesy arrangements of flowers, etc) so if you have any ideas for me to try, let me know!
I've signed up for the second level as well. That class is more of this type of icing and we also start on royal icing (the crunchy, candy-like flowers). Next class doesn't have a cake every week, so I'll post whatever we do each week to keep you posted! Talk to y'all later!

Wow! I wish I could do that! The cake looks yummy enough to eat...is it? If I need a decorator, I know whom to call.
You're awesome at this Ashleigh! It looks so good.
Have you thought about just putting the decorative icing stuff (flowers, vines, etc) on the cake before it is served? Or does it need to harden? Or how about just putting it on the plate? Could the icing on the plate be done ahead of time? Then they would all have equal icing, and possibly all in a little bit of a different way. That would be fun. I don't know much about this. Let me know what you had thought of.
